Tips For Fitting In Your Workout
Make sure you don't feel like you have to do anything.
This is the first mental hurdle you might have to jump over, and it might be hard. It makes us feel bad if we spend some time on ourselves instead of our children. It's important to keep in mind that exercise isn't a treat. "Don't work out until your kids are older" has never been said by a doctor or an expert. You aren't training for an Iron Man, and you're just making healthy habits in 20-30 minute bursts. You are also setting a good example for your kids because these are the healthy habits you look for, someone who will keep you from doing what you say to do. I want them to follow in the future. To be a more pleasant woman and a happier person, you need to go to the gym and feel good about yourself. If mommy is angry or afraid, the whole house sinks like the Titanic. So, don't listen to the voice in your head that's mean, and make a good change.
Look for someone who will keep you from doing what you say to do.
Groups or one-on-one: You can do this at home or school. When I work out, I check in with one of my best friends every day and tell them when I did it. This way, I don't use my crazy life as an excuse not to work out because my friend is waiting for a text message from me with an update. This is what my friend would rather hear than a long list of reasons why I didn't work out.
Find workout videos that are short and easy to do.
People who do 20-30 minute workouts are great! They can be done at home in your living room or basement. For that short a time, you don't need much more. And let's face it, everyone can find 20 to 30 minutes to do something else.
During one or two of the seven days of the week, do a longer workout:
This could be a Zumba class on Sunday night, a spin class on Tuesday night, or a workout in your basement on Saturday morning. I like to start with some strength training, then do a 45-minute spin class. It's a long, hard workout that goes well with the shorter ones.
The night before, start getting ready:
Prepare the night before, and the morning always goes better. I take a little time in the morning to make the coffee, breakfast, and lunch for the kids and a list of things I want to do that day. Every morning, it usually saves me at least 20 minutes by not having to get ready. That saves me 20 minutes, which is all I need for a quick workout. So, if I'm still working out when the kids wake up, I already have their breakfast on the table and their lunches ready to go. THEY ARE HAVING BREAKFAST while I finish my workout, so I don't have to. So I have to get them dressed, brush their teeth and hair, and then out the door. Easy! So, don't forget to prepare the night before.
